Module 6 Project
Explain how the issue you have chosen affects your community.
-Water pollution regularly affects the health of wildlife, ecosystems and our families. Water, which is an important substance that the body needs should be dealt with great precaution. Factors which can influence the pollution of water includes, Nutrients Pollution, Surface water pollution, Oxygen Depleting, Microbiological, Chemical Water Pollution & Oil Spillage.
How does this issue affect households and local residents?
-Water Pollution causes water to become unsafe for using and consuming. In result, increasing illnesses among local resident and household members.
How does this issue affect area businesses?
-Businesses where consumers are frequent in contact with water would not be able to continue running because the health of the customers and even worker may be jeopardized.
How does this issue affect our government at the local, state, and national levels?
-The Government being head in charge would have to established new regulations to ensure the safety of water. Local residents are affected because people become sick and turn an epidemic to a pandemic issue. National Trade would be restricted because the government will try to stop further pollution in other areas of the world.
How does this issue affect the rest of the world?
- Water circulates and that is one of the reasons why it is considered a global issue that can affect coastal regions. Not only does Water pollution affect our community and families but it spreads all over the world. Our earth, which is made up of 70% of water, could easily affect everyone’s life, we use it for so many things, to wash clothes, wash dishes, drink to stay alive, to cook.
How does the issue affect resources, goods and services, and finances?
-Natural resources can be affected because foods that grows off this water will no longer be able to be used. Services will have to be funded to help filter the polluted water. Finances will have to be raised to fund those services.
Solutions
1 Restrictions on dumping sites near water
2 Manufacture of Environmentally safe household product
3 Proper disposal of pesticides, fertilizers and other toxic chemicals
Would each solution
work?
There's hope in the solution listed but not everyone or major disposal company will abide by these restriction. For example, in the state of Florida, we have a "Florida Litter Law" which individuals are fined and depending on the quantity the court may require the violator to pick up litter or perform other community service corresponding with the offense committed. You see even with these potential consequences there are those who still litters. So as far as each solution working there's a faint possibility but we should still continue to try.
Which is the best
solution?
Proper disposal of pesticides, fertilizers and other toxic chemicals would be the best solution in helping reduce water pollution. Just like recyclable materials has it's own waste container, toxic chemicals should have their own receptacle as well. The minor problem with implementing this solution would be that the government would have to supply the toxic chemical receptacle for each home. This action may rise budget concerns and may result in a delayed process but eventually with the purchase of the receptacle will help decrease water pollution.
Are there budget or labor concerns?
Yes, there are budget concerns because my best solution requires the manufacture of receptacles for toxic materials that are specially design so that they won't seep through.
Why would some people oppose the solutions you have chosen?
Some people may oppose the solution that I have chosen simply because they're too lazy to carry out solution number three. But most importantly the solution chosen mainly targets the government which is involve in the decision of manufacturing processes and restrictions on dumping sites. They may oppose because it will require strict implementation on what producers are able to produce and possibly lose money due to those manufacturers who stop producing.

Important questions!
**Does the public need to be aware of and support the solution?
**What are the externalities, both positive and negative of my chosen solution?
Externalities are the indirect consequences that may occur. With externalities we know that it can be both positive and negative. One negative externality that would happen as a result of proper disposal of pesticides are that toxic material may seeps through containers due to poor manufacturing and many people becomes ill and their medical bills goes to a rise. A positive externality would be actually properly disposing pesticides, fertilizers and other toxic chemicals into action and the water becomes less polluted over time making water more suitable for living.
What do your
parents/others in the community say about the issue?
My parents believe this can grow into a much bigger issue if steps and procedures aren't taken to stop water pollution.
**How is the issue connected to poverty?
Water pollution is connected to poverty because in areas around the world where water pollution existed greatly, lives those that are in poverty.
What positive or negative externalities does this issue present at each sector of the economy?
A negative externality would be an increase
in medical bills due to the number of sick people caused by this issue.
What incentives do
individuals, businesses, and government have to act on each possible solution?
The main
incentive for businesses, individuals, and government to act on each solution would
be the idea that water pollution would decreases making available cleaner water
and the quality of life would not diminish.
Individuals- they would
have cleaner water to bathe with and drink.
Businesses- businesses will
remain in function especially those involve with water such as beaches, pools,
and restaurants.
Government- the government
would benefit because less people are getting contaminated so there is a
decrease in hospitalized patient.
